Pandit Firoz Dastur

Dr. Pandit Firoz Dastur is considered one of the doyens of the Kirana Gharana (the others being Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and Smt. Gangubai Hangal). Panditji began his early training in music under Shri K. D. Jaokar but it was the tutelage of Sawai Gandharva, one of the greatest exponents of the Kirana Gharana, that imparted to Pandit Firoz Dastur the unmistakable stamp of the Kirana Gharana.

Interestingly, all of Panditji's gurus were themselves disciples of the legendry Khansaheb Abdul Karim Khan. Panditji has enthralled audiences with his music both in India and abroad. He has been associated with the Music Department of The University of Bombay since its inception in 1969. Panditji has been the recepient of many national awards including the Sangeet Natak Academy award. He also has several recordings to his credit and artistes such as Millind Chittal, Achyut Abhyankar, Usha Deshpande (Tikekar), Vrinda Munkar and Uttara Kelkar were among his students.
